Character Background: Verucha grew up happily, only child of older parents. Her extended family was small as both of her parents were the only children of their respective generations. At the time of her parents death (and her own) she was the last l iving soul in the Tate lineage.
An intelligent, quiet, studious child, Verucha graduated from secondary school one year early, applied at the University of Washington and was excepted. She was an excellent student, carrying a 3.97 GPA through her undergraduate career. At 22, she dec ided to enter the pharmacuetical program at UW and suceeded.
During the summer of 1985, she worked very closely with a chemistry professor named Dr. William Lang on a research grant while beginning residency work at the University hospital. Some time during this summer, she became intimate with Dr. Lang and con tinued working with him even after the grant was discontinued. In the summer of 1986, Dr. Lang ended the relationship abruptly, sending Verucha into a minor depression. She began to steal drugs from the pharmacy at this time and became addicted during t hat year.
When the yearly inventory was taken in March of 1987, the deficit was noticed and an investigation was started. All employees were subjected to mandatory blood & urine testing which Verucha refused. She was dismissed from her job pending further inve stigation. Shortly thereafter, she dropped out of school.
With nothing to do, no income and a drug addiction, Verucha took directly to the streets. She was an acomplished pick-pocket and shoplifter. Her money dwindled and she was finally evicted from her apartment. Dejected and alone, she finally went back home to stay with her parents but could not kick her drug habit. Finding it harder and harder to find pharmacueticals on the street, she finally opted for heroin.
By 1990, her parents had asked her to leave the residence and she was living on the street. She became friends with a group of heroin addicts who supported themselves with petty theft. As the hunger of the group grew, so did the crime. The group inc luded: Verucha, Steven Dort (27), Archie Crowl (29), Burton Smith (22), Garrett Deeds (29) and Michael Simmons (30).
On the night of June 9, 1992 the group decided to rob the Tate Pharmacy for both drugs and money. Hearing the break-in from their upstairs residence, both Mr. & Mrs. Tate went downstairs after calling the police, armed with one shotgun. In the battle that followed, both were left dead along with Garrett Deeds. Soon after, the police surrounded the scene and gunned down the rest of the men leaving the pharmacy in shambles. Two police officers were killed as well. When Verucha was found, huddled in the midst of withdrawl beneath the counter, she coldly executed the officer holding his hand out to help her up. She was taken to jail.
A little known department in the NSA called the Black Box stepped in. They altered the official records, attesting that Verucha had died, with her parents, in the robbery and took her in. She was locked up, given time to withdrawl from the drugs and then began training for black ops. With the threat of death any way she went if she was uncooperative, she threw herself into the training and was one of the more successful recruits from this department.
At this time, she has completed several missions and is extremely loyal to the Black Box and, in some way, her country. She is no longer addicted to drugs, but does have to take prescription medication to control her mood swings and paranoia. She has grown into a pleasing looking woman with a nice smile and easy manner. Her self-confidence has also grown. She tends towards a quiet life when she isn't away at "work".
